The Department of Casino, Hospitality and Tourism Management at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast congratulates the first two graduates of the department’s fully online casino management certificate program.
Chad Pruitt, an employee at Beau Rivage Resort and Casino’s Fallen Oak, and Michael Rodriguez, an employee at Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant, both completed the certification program this past spring.
The casino management certification was designed for professionals seeking opportunities in management and students, either business or non-business majors, pursuing a casino management career.
“The University of Southern Mississippi has always provided great opportunities for its students,” said Larry Gregory, executive director of the Mississippi Casino Operators Association. “The Casino Management Certification Program is a shining example of this and the casino industry strongly embraces this program’s mission. Most importantly, having the first graduates of the program is certainly a testament to the programs’ success and we congratulate Chad Pruitt and Michael Rodriguez for receiving their certification.”
The certification program features the business-education partnership instructional model, iPASS, or Industry Professionals Assistance in Student Success. Classes use live videoconferencing interaction, project mentoring, guest lectures by casino executives and a discussion board for interactive learning among students. Courses are designed for participants to complete the certification within one year.
