The Department of Casino, Hospitality and Tourism Management at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast is offering a fully online program to earn a certificate in casino management.
The casino management certification is beneficial for gaming professionals seeking management opportunities, hospitality, tourism professionals, and educators seeking to re-skill, and students, either business or non-business majors, pursuing a casino management career.
“The Mississippi Casino Operators Association (MCOA) recognizes The University of Southern Mississippi Casino Management Certification as exemplary for preparing students and employees for management positions within the casino resort industry,” said Larry Gregory, executive director of the MCOA. “MCOA encourages employers to recognize this certification through their tuition reimbursement program and hiring process.”
The certification program features the business-education partnership instructional model, iPASS, or Industry Professionals Assistance in Student Success. Classes will feature live videoconferencing interaction, project mentoring, guest lectures by casino executives and a discussion board for interactive learning among students. Courses are designed for participants to complete the certification within one year.
Certification courses include introduction to casino and resort operations; regulatory, legal and security aspects of casino operations; casino and resort marketing; and casino and resort financial analysis. Completion of the certification may also be used as 15 credit hours of undergraduate course work for certain bachelor of science degrees in the university’s College of Business.
