Southern Miss Gulf Coast University Communications Receives Grand Award

The Office of University Communications at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast received a total of seven awards, including the Grand Award for electronic media, in the senior division of the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) 2011 awards competition May 24.

The office includes Shelia White, director of university communications, Judy Isbell, director of web services, Charmaine Schmermund, public relations associate, and Francesca Linthicum, graphic designer and communication specialist.

In addition to receiving the Grand Award for the entry, “www.usm.edu/oilspill,” Isbell and White’s entry received the first place award in the Web page category. Isbell and White received an additional first place award for the entry, “Online Silent Auction,” in the public relations innovation category.

Isbell and Linthicum received the third place award in the public relations campaign category for the entry, “Welcome Week.” Linthicum also received a third place award in the single piece of artwork non-sports category for the entry, “Jazz and Blues Poster.” In the creative partners category, Schmermund received the first place award for the entry, “Lessons from the Spill Educational Series.”

Southern Miss Gulf Coast University Communications also shared the first place award with Hattiesburg University Communications in the public relations campaign categoryfor the entry, “University Communications and the BP Oil Spill.”
