Southern Miss to Host Economic Outlook Symposium on Jan. 23

Economic trends and forecasts will take center stage during the Economic Outlook 2014 symposium set for Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Thad Cochran Center on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus.

Hosted by the Southern Miss College of Business and the Trent Lott National Center, the event will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The First Bank of Hattiesburg is serving as the title sponsor. The event is free but seating will be limited.

“This event is the University’s opportunity to bring together business professionals, elected officials, and local concerned citizens to discuss the economic outlook for our nation, state and local region,” said Shannon Campbell, executive director of the Trent Lott Center. “Our guest presenters are highly respected for their expertise and they will share economic trends for 2014 that affect our ability to plan for business and job growth.”

Scheduled speakers include the following:

  • Robert Strand, Senior Economist, American Bankers Association
  • Darren Webb, Senior Economist, Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning
  • Jack Norris, President, Gulf Coast Business Council
  • Chad Newell, President, Area Development Partnership
  • Lee Lawson, President & CEO, Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance
