The University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for Healthcare Sales and Marketing, the Trent Lott Center and Dr. Mike Wittmann, associate professor of marketing, will host a presentation The Evolution of Science and Surgery on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. in the Trent Lott Center.

Targeting nursing, healthcare marketing and chemistry students, the event will host Intuitive Surgical to discuss the role of science and innovation in improving patient outcomes.

“This event is an educational opportunity that allows our students to gain a better understanding of how surgery and the medical device industry are changing,” said Wittmann. “Intuitive Surgical was kind enough to bring their equipment and a local surgeon to campus for this event.”

From 4-6 p.m., everyone in attendance will get the opportunity to try out the equipment and at 6 p.m. Dr. Joe Washburne, a certified master in robotic surgery, will give a presentation about the future of surgery and the role of the da Vinci surgical system.

The event is free and open to the public.
