Children’s Center Has Busy Month of April Planned
The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi has a series of fundraising activities scheduled in April.
On Thursday, April 7, children will bring their tricycles and other riding toys to school for the annual Trike-A-Thon fundraiser. Participants are sponsored by donating $10, $20 or more and all proceeds will benefits the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
On Tuesday, April 19 the Rotary Club of Hattiesburg will host the annual “A Night in Italy” spaghetti supper with proceeds going to the Children’s Center. Takeout or eat-in dinners will be available from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Southern Oaks House and Gardens restaurant. The cost is $10 for a complete dinner consisting of spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, dessert and tea.
On Saturday, April 23 the Sunrise Rotary Club will sponsor a 5K Fun Run/Walk on the Longleaf Trace with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Center. Serious runners will start the 5K at 8 a.m. and will compete for prizes and a T-shirt. More casual participants will begin a few minutes later. The more laid-back entrants can push strollers, pull wagons or walk dogs to make the event more fun.

Southern Miss Campus Civitan Club Wins Award
The University of Southern Mississippi Campus Civitan Club has been awarded the 2010 Service Project of the Year Award by Civitan International.
Southern Miss captured the honor in recognition of the club’s fundraiser last November for area heart transplant patient Jessica Harris. The club held a birthday party/fundraiser for the McComb, Miss., resident on campus to help defray some of her mounting medical costs.
