The University of Southern Mississippi’s campus radio station WUSM-FM (88.5) is offering some lucky participant a chance to win big money this fall with the WUSM 50/50 Drawing.
During football season, WUSM will be selling tickets - $1 each or 10 for $5. Interested patrons can drop by the WUSM office, Southern Hall room 109, or purchase them at the WUSM tent during the WUSM Tailgate Concert Series or any WUSM event. The winner will be drawn at the last Southern Miss home game, on Nov. 17.
If your name is drawn, you get half of the money with the rest going to WUSM. The more people who enter, the greater the chance to walk away with some great holiday money.
Money raised through the drawing will go toward WUSM’s move from Southern Hall to College Hall on the Hattiesburg campus in the fall of 2013, as well as purchasing new training equipment for students.
“Training the next batch of journalists requires being on top of the latest equipment being used to capture the story,” said WUSM Director Justin Martin. “Sure, the emphasis is theory over vocational training on gear, but a lot of the new ways of gathering news relies on knowing how to rock with digital gear. If you can't rock a phone and then translate the raw story to a digital medium, you will soon be left in the dust from a journalism standpoint.”
When asked about fundraising, Martin said, “Well, money does make the wheels turn.
Whether the money comes from private/public partnerships, grants, membership and sponsorships, or from the University, that ingredient is the foundation, to be honest. No money, no show.”
