Fan violence will be the focus of one of the panel discussions making up the schedule of events for the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security’s (NCS4) National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition Aug. 2-4 at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.
This panel discussion, titled “Fan Violence: Current Trends and Best Practices” is set for Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 11-12:15 a.m. and will feature the following expert presenters:
· Moderator: Dan Mullin, Vice-President of the Department of Investigations, Major League 0Baseball
· Elizabeth Mahler, M.D., Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University School of Medicine
· Jorge Costa,Senior Vice President, Ballpark Operations, San Francisco Giants
· William Bratton, Chairman of Kroll, Altegrity, Inc.
“This is a very distinguished panel with a deep knowledge base about the challenges of fan violence, from prevention to dealing with the event as it occurs and the aftermath. It’s one of the primary issues faced by professionals in our field,” said Dr. Lou Marciani, director of theNCS4.
Established in 2006, The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security was created to provide an interdisciplinary academic environment to further increase sport security awareness, improve sport security policies and procedures and enhance emergency response through evacuation, recovery operations and crowd management training. The Center will host the second annual National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition Aug. 2-4.
