Countertenor Darryl Taylor Kicks off the Southern Miss School of Music’s 2011 Connoisseur Series.

Countertenor Darryl Taylor and pianist Brent McMunn will together be in concert in Hattiesburg on February 3, as part of The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music’s Connoisseurs Chamber Music Series.

Noted for his compelling artistry and authority and repertoire that extends from Bach to Britten, and beyond, Taylor enjoys an international career with performances of art song, opera and oratio.

ABC in Barcelona, Spain commented, “(Darryl Taylor) offered an uncommonly splendid and spiritual evening…(he) delighted us with a truly exciting recital ‘among friends.”

Recent career highlights for Taylor include a highly successful recital at the famed Liszt Music Academy in Budapest; Merkin Concert Hall in New York and Spanish television and radio broadcasts from Barcelona's Palau de la Música. Taylor was also a featured artist under the sponsorship of the Cultural Committee for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and was heard in Messiah at Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.

“To have Darryl Taylor in our midst is an absolutely splendid opportunity not only to experience a most rare and unique voice such as the countertenor voice, but an artist who is so astutely skilled, smooth, captivating and rich in his delivery and artistry,” said Dr. Kimberley Davis, associate professor of voice at Southern Miss.
