Mississippi’s leading broadcasters from across the state will meet with and mentor students for the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Day on April 19 at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus.

The Rotary Club of Hattiesburg will conduct its annual “A Night in Italy” spaghetti dinner on Tuesday, April 17 at Southern Oaks House & Gardens with proceeds benefitting The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Take-out or eat-in dinners will be available from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Southern Oaks on Richburg Road in Hattiesburg. Tickets are $10 each for a complete dinner consisting of spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, dessert and tea.

The 45th annual Fay B. Kaigler Children's Book Festival will be held April 11-13 at the Thad Cochran Center on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus. It is presented by the university’s School of Library and Information Science and de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection.

United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia delivered a lecture on "The Methodology of Originalism" as part of The University of Southern Mississippi's Honors Forum Series on Wednesday, April 4.

The Friends of the University Libraries at The University of Southern Mississippi recently funded new electronic books for the libraries’ nursing collection. The donation comes during a trend toward online learning within the field.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and High Performance Materials will host a group of high school students Friday, March 30 who will be challenged in competition to engineer a polymer project to be tested on laboratory equipment at the school.

LONG BEACH, Miss. – The book, “Hurricane Katrina: The Mississippi Story,” by Dr. James Pat Smith, professor of history at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast, was recently published by University Press of Mississippi. “Hurricane Katrina: The Mississippi Story” presents the fullest account yet written of the impact of this storm on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The College of Health at The University of Southern Mississippi, along with the Hattiesburg Clinic and the Southern and Southwest Mississippi Area Health Education Centers, present the forum, “Poverty and Its Impact on Health: Causation or Correlation,” Thursday, April 12, from 6 – 7:45 p.m. in the Fleming Education Center at the university’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Theatre and Dance will present “Anna in the Tropics”by Nilo Cruz, opening March 29 in the Gilbert F. Hartwig Theatre.

The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries Science Café, “Musical Minds,” will be held today from 6-7:30 p.m. in Cook Library Art Gallery, located next to Starbucks in Cook Library, room 105A.

Scott J. Moore, an investigative scientist in the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Office of the Inspector General, delivered the annual Martha D. Saunders Keynote Address at the University of Southern Mississippi’s Graduate Student Research Symposium, held Friday, March 23 in the Thad Cochran Center.

Undergraduate and graduate students at The University of Southern Mississippi are invited to present their research at its 6th annual Student Research Colloquium, set for April 26. The deadline for submission of a research presentation proposal is April 9 at 11 p.m.
