Among 18 teams from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, a team of three University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast students were named winners of the 2011 Deloitte Consulting’s Hattiesburg Invitational Programming Competition held Feb. 19 at the Deloitte Hattiesburg Delivery Center.

Forty-five University of Southern Mississippi students enrolled in the spring semester Introduction to Tourism course had an opportunity to see the inner workings of an industry leader during a Feb. 25 visit to the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear, Ala.

Jessica Dominguez, a junior elementary education major from New Orleans, was chosen election commissioner for The University of Southern Mississippi Student Government Association (SGA) during elections on the Hattiesburg campus Feb. 22.

Rebecca Masters, a junior nutrition and dietetics major from Ellisville, Miss. was elected attorney general for The University of Southern Mississippi’s Student Government Association (SGA) during elections held on the Hattiesburg campus Feb. 22.

Masters is a member of Southern Style 2010; a student in the Honors College; a Luckyday Citizenship Scholar and vice president of the Luckyday Leadership Team and a Luckyday Mentor.

Davontae Washington, a junior business management major from Hattiesburg, was elected treasurer for The University of Southern Mississippi Student Government Association during elections on the Hattiesburg campus Feb. 22.

Jeffery McClendon, a sophomore English and political science double major from Greenville, Miss. was elected vice president of The University of Southern Mississippi Student Government Association (SGA) during elections on the Hattiesburg campus Feb.22.

Three Paralegal Studies students from The University of Southern Mississippiwere recently honored by the Mississippi Paralegal Association (MPA) for sweeping all three places in the 2010 Student Essay Contest.

Members of the executive cabinet of The University of Southern Mississippi StudentGovernment Association (SGA) were chosen during elections held Tuesday on the Hattiesburg campus.

Newly elected officers include the following:

Rachael Nicholson of Foley, Ala., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Nicholson, a business administration major and Spanish minor, is the daughter of James and Jean Nicholson. She is a member of Southern Style, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Eagle Ambassadors and Delta Sigma Pi. 

Ruth Poe of Vicksburg, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Poe, a history and psychology major, is the daughter of Will and Denice Poe. She is a member of the Honors College, Golden Key International Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, The Legacy, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, the Ballroom Dance Club and the USM Choir.  She has participated in the British Studies and Vietnam Studies programs. 

Two students from the Jackson area have been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Two students from Picayune have been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The students are as follows:

Mary Monks of Pachuta, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Monks, a forensic science major, is the daughter of Andrew Monks and Linda Monks. She is a member of Eagle Connection, the Forensic Science Society and the Student Government Association. She also served on Southern Style and was a Golden Eagle Welcome Week group leader.     

Megan Toles of Oxford, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Toles, an accounting major, is the daughter of Neal Toles and Samantha Toles. Among her campus activities she is vice president of Goal Tenders, vice president of Beta Alpha Psi and a member of The Legacy Board.    

Nicole Nettles of Ocean Springs, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Nettles, an accounting major, is the daughter of Stephen and Dianne Nettles. She is a Southern Miss cheerleader and a member of Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society, Golden Key Honor Society and Lambda Sigma Honor Society.  Among her campus activities she also serves as president of Order of Omega. 

Six students from the New Orleans area have been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Mandeville

Stephanie Latza of Nesbit, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Robert Pruett of Mendenhall, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Pruett, a history and Spanish double major, is the son of Stephen Pruett and Delwyn Pruett.  He is a member of the Student Government Association, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, Lambda Sigma Honor Society, Golden Key Club, The Legacy, Sigma Chi Fraternity and the Baptist Student Union.    

Three students from Mccomb have been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The students are as follows:

·         Arlicia McGhee, a English major, is the daughter of Mary McGhee. She is a member of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, Order of Omega, Greek Seekers and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. where she serves as treasurer.

Two students from Laurel have been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The students are as follows:

·         Robert Hamrick, a communication studies major, is the son of Mike and Debbi Hamrick. He is a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Eagle Connection and Golden Eagle Welcome Week crew. Among his campus activities he is also a Leadership Ambassador and Honors College Ambassador.

Lacey Blankenship of Jackson, Ala., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Blankenship, a biology licensure, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Blankenship. She is a member of the Baptist Student Union Leadership Team, Legacy Board, Leadership Executive Team, Eagle Connection and Delta Gamma Sorority. Among her campus activities she is also president of The Legacy and head mascot.
