Amy Gemelli of Bay St. Louis, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Gemelli, an architectural engineering major, is the daughter of Mike and Lori Gemelli. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority, National Association of Homebuilders, Lambda Sigma Honor Society, University Activities Council and Diamond Darlings.  She also serves as an Honors College Ambassador. 

Jennie Thomas of Batesville, Miss., has been named to 2010-11 Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

University of Southern Mississippi student Amolie LeAnn Egloff of Diamondhead, Miss., a junior majoring in history and with a minor in political science, has accepted a summer internship with U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker(R-Miss.) in Washington, D.C.

Two University of Southern Mississippi theatre students are heading to Washington, D.C. in April as national finalists for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).

Six University of Southern Mississippi students from the Mobile area have been selected as members of Southern Style for 2011.

  • Nikki Snellman, a sophomore elementary/special education major, is the daughter of Dale Snellman of Dauphin Island, Ala., and Michelle and Gavin Dixon of Spanish Fort, Ala. She serves as social chair for Chi Omega sorority and is a recruiter for the Southern Miss football office.

Three University of Southern Mississippi students from the Madison County area have been selected as members of Southern Style for 2011.

Laney Phillips of Florence, Miss., has been selected as one of 23 members of Southern Style for 2011 at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Phillips, a sophomore nursing major, is the daughter of Scott and Sandi Phillips.  She is vice president of finance for Delta Delta Delta sorority. 

Carmen Hall of Pace, Fla., has been selected as one of 23 members of Southern Style for 2011 at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Hall, a junior biological science major, is the daughter of Kenneth Hall, Sr., of Pearl, Miss., and Denita Williams of Pace, Fla. She is a member of the African American Student Organization, Southern Miss Activities Council, Campus Civitian and the Student Government Association. 

Kimberly Gaddis of Meridian, Miss., has been selected as one of 23 members of Southern Style for 2011 at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Gaddis, a junior political science major, is the daughter of Keith Gaddis of Meridian and Melanie and Dennis Reed of Meridian.  She is an Honor’s College Ambassador, secretary of Eagle Connection and a member of Delta Gamma sorority. 

Shawn Blanchard of Liberty, Miss., has been selected as one of 23 members of Southern Style for 2011 at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Blanchard, a junior exercise science major, is the son of Kenneth and Angie Blanchard.  He is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Campus Crusades for Christ and serves as Freshman Associates Advisor. 

Erick Brown of Columbus, Miss., has been selected as one of 23 members of Southern Style for 2011 at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Brown, a junior sociology major, is the son of James and Regina Brown. 

Southern Style is a highly selective group of student leaders who serve as official hosts and hostesses for Southern Miss. Students are chosen each year through a three-phase selection process. One of the main responsibilities of Southern Style members is to serve as orientation leaders during the summer.

Austin Jackson of Clinton, Miss., has been selected as one of 23 members of Southern Style for 2011 at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Jackson, a sophomore English major, is the son of Alfred and Vivian Jackson.  He is a member of the Student Government Association and serves as a Leadership Ambassador.

Summit

The Alpha Delta chapter of Lambda Sigma at The University of Southern Mississippi was one of two chapters from across the country selected as Outstanding Chapters of the year at the Presidents Conference held at Louisiana Tech University during the fall 2010 semester.

Student Government Association (SGA) President Kasey Mitchell will soon be able to add the title “world traveler” to her list of accomplishments during her tenure at The University of Southern Mississippi.

 

Mitchell, a senior from Picayune, Miss., is one of only 45 SGA presidents from across the United States selected to travel to Russia in March as part of the Open World Leadership Center’s Kremlin Fellows program.

The phrase “condom fashion show” should easily suffice in grabbing people’s attention.

 

Student Health Services at The University of Southern Mississippi hopes the unconventional “contest” will do much more than that by helping raise awareness about the dangers of unprotected sex.

A different type of hurricane warning was in effect when a team of Poplarville High School students blew away its competition in the annual Hurricane Bowl contest at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in Ocean Springs, Miss.

Students for Human Rights, (SHR) a student-led organization at The University of Southern Mississippi, is joining forces with the American Red Cross to sponsor the Red Cross Humanitarian Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 10 at the Trent Lott Center.

The Southern Chorale, renowned as the premiere chorale ensemble at The University of Southern Mississippi, will perform a free concert at the St. Louis Cathedral at New Orleans’ Jackson Square on Friday, Feb. 11.

More than 100 high school students from across the state participated in the second annual Polymer Science High School Day Jan. 28 at The University of Southern Mississippi, hosted by its School of Polymers and High Performance Materials.

Centennial Celebration Fall 2010 Commencement graduates of The University of Southern Mississippi’s double major program in elementary education and special education were honored by the university’s Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education (CISE) in a ceremony prior to the fall commencement.
