Have you ever found yourself wondering what makes people act the way they do?

A new degree option offered by the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at The University of Southern Mississippi gives students a chance to understand the world around them from a historical and critical perspective.

The Repertory Dance Company at The University of Southern Mississippi will present emotionally inspired works by faculty and students Oct. 28-31 in the Mannoni Performing Arts Center on the Hattiesburg campus.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Nursing has been selected to participate in a landmark national study that will examine the use of simulation in nursing education.

Southern Miss is one of 10 schools nationwide chosen for the study, which is being conducted by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

Outstanding achievement by members of The University of Southern Mississippi faculty will be recognized during the annual Lives Enriched Through Their Endeavors:  Research and Scholarship (LETTERS) Day program Friday, Oct. 29. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., on the Hattiesburg campus in the Thad Cochran Center, Ballrooms I and III.

Jill Duckworth sang ‘Love is Where You Find It” for the talent competition at The Miss University of Southern Mississippi Pageant Saturday.

The pageant judges obviously loved Duckworth, awarding the senior communications studies major from Clinton the pageant title which comes with a $1,500 scholarship and opportunity to compete in the Miss Mississippi Pageant June 29-July 2, 2011 in Vicksburg. 

The Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning recently voted to offer new four-year contracts to University of Southern Mississippi President Dr. Martha Saunders and Delta State University President Dr. John M. Hilpert, becoming effective as current contracts expire.

It was the seventh consecutive time for the men’s program to win the award and the eighth time overall.

The Halbrook Award recognizes colleges and universities that maintain and achieve high academic standards for student-athletes, thus encouraging high graduation rates.
