More than 650 students representing high schools from the southern region of the state will gather on The University of Southern Mississippi campus Dec. 3-4 to perform a variety of renowned plays as part of the Mississippi High School Drama Festival.

More than 3.5 million television viewers worldwide will watch The University of Southern Mississippi Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and Dixie Darlings make debut appearances in New York City at the 84th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

A highly coordinated manhunt ended Friday night with the apprehension of Travis “Taurus” Brown, who is suspected of shooting three University of Southern Mississippi students in the early morning hours of Nov. 14.

Brown, 29, was arrested without incident at a residence on Broad Street in Hattiesburg about 8:30 p.m. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault in the shooting of Southern Miss football players Martez Smith, Tim Green and Deddrick Jones.

Fans who want to leave a get-well message for three University of Southern Mississippi students injured in a recent off-campus shooting incident can do so Saturday from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on the Hattiesburg campus before the Southern Miss – Houston game.

The Southern Miss employees recently joined to designate their donation, totaling nearly $200, to the university’s United Way Campaign in support of the Shafer Center for Crisis Intervention.

The University of Southern Mississippi will close its 2010 Centennial Celebration with performances by the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale. Having performed earlier in the year to welcome the centennial, the chorale will now commemorate the special occasion with “Holiday Celebration – A Centennial Celebration.”
