TUESDAY, OCT. 19

Former Secretary Albright to deliver lecture

WHEN:6:30 p.m.

WHERE:Saenger Theatre in downtown Hattiesburg.

EVENT:Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will be the guest speaker at the Lt. Col. John H. Dale Sr. Distinguished Lecture series. Her lecture, titled, “The Future of NATO,” is based upon her service as chair of a group of experts focused on developing NATO’s New Strategic Concept. For information call 601-266-6823.

Career Services sponsoring Etiquette Dinner

WHEN:6:30-7:30 p.m.

WHERE:Room 218 of the Thad Cochran Center.

EVENT:Attendees will receive training from a certified etiquette consultant and practice skills during a professional dinner tutorial, which includes a four-course meal. For information call 601-266-4153.

Renowned scientist Hawker to deliver lecture

WHEN:1:30 p.m.

WHERE:Shelby F. Thames Polymer Science Research Center auditorium.

EVENT:Dr. Craig Hawker, director of the Materials Research Laboratory and professor at the University of California-Santa Barbara will present, “A Few Good Reactions – Functionalized Nanostructures Based on Efficient Chemistry” as part of the ninth annual Bayer Distinguished Lecture Series.” For information call 601-266-4868.

Career Services hosting fair

WHEN:Noon-4 p.m.

WHERE:Thad Cochran Center.

EVENT:The Career Fair provides an excellent opportunity for students and alumni to network with a large number of employers right here on campus. For information call 601-266-4153.

“Careers in Law” panel discussion set

WHEN:5 p.m.

WHERE:Rooms 228-229 at Thad Cochran Center.

EVENT:Career Services will host a “Careers in Law” panel discussion. Students are invited to learn about the admissions process to law school, gain knowledge of careers in the law profession and also learn about careers attained outside of the law profession with a law degree. 100 Alumni art exhibit opens

WHEN:8 a.m.-5 p.m.

WHERE:Southern Miss Museum of Art.

EVENT:This exhibit will showcase a range of diversity in size, technique, content, message, style and materials. The walls of the museum will feature an outburst of creativity from Southern Miss artists from 1950-2005. For information call 601-266-5200.

Civil Rights conference planned

WHEN:6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21.

WHERE:African American Military History Museum.

EVENT:The conference begins with a reception featuring remarks from Southern Miss President Martha Saunders and Raylawni Branch, one of the first two African Americans to attend Southern Miss.
