The new Nurse Anesthesia Program in the College of Nursing held a reception on Friday, Jan. 25 for the 20 members of the inaugural class. A large crowd gathered for the reception which was held at the Trent Lott Center.

Dr. Scott Blackwell serves as the director of Student Housing Administration at The University of Southern Mississippi. Recently, Blackwell took a few moments to reflect on his current responsibilities and outside interests in a question-and-answer format.

Q: What is your hometown and educational background?

A: I was born in Akron, Ohio but my hometown was Jasper, Indiana. I got my undergraduate degree at DePauw University, a liberal arts major with a history emphasis. I did my graduate and doctoral schooling at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Steven Moser was recently named Dean of the College of Arts & Letters at The University of Southern Mississippi. He has also served as director of the Pride of Mississippi and conductor of the Symphonic Winds. In this Q&A feature Moser reflects on his current responsibilities and outside interests.

Q: What is your hometown and educational background?

As a kickoff to the 2012 Southern Miss Campaign, the USM Foundation hosted a "Dancing with the Deans" dance competition on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Thad Cochran Center.

A: I grew up in Portland, Texas. I have a BA and MA from Texas State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.

Denis Wiesenburg serves as the Vice President for Research at The University of Southern Mississippi. A Pascagoula, Miss., native, Wiesenburg spent seven years teaching in Alaska before returning to his home state. Richard "Dick" Vogel serves as Executive Director of the Eagle Club and Associate Director of Athletics at The University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. David Davies serves as dean of the Honors College at The University of Southern Mississippi. An Arkansas native, Davies came to Southern Miss in 1991 as an adviser to the Student Printz. Homer Coffman serves as Chief Information Officer at The University of Southern Mississippi. Before coming to Southern Miss he also served in the Marine Corps, worked as a company president and a college dean. Q: What is your hometown and educational background?

A: I was born in Jackson, Mississippi and I graduated from Jackson Murrah High School. I have an undergraduate degree in English and a master’s degree from Southern Miss.

The Office of Communications at The University of Southern Mississippi captured 11 awards – including a Grand Award for Print Media -- during the 2013 College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) Conference held May 20-21 in Gulfport, Miss.

Competing in the Senior Division among Mississippi universities, Southern Miss took home the Grand Award for its “Parent Handbook.” The judges called the submission a “Home run.”
