Dr. Rodney Bennett, incoming president at The University of Southern Mississippi, addresses a large group of students who turned out for a campus cleanup project on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The student-led project was coordinated in response to the EF-4 tornado that struck the Southern Miss campus and the Hattiesburg area on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Tyler Brown, a senior polymer science major at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been recognized by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) with financial support to attend graduate school.

Tyler Brown, a senior polymer science major at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been recognized by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) with financial support to attend graduate school.

Brown of Biloxi, Miss., plans to pursue his doctorate at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the Biomolecular Science and Engineering Program with an emphasis in Biophysics and Bioengineering.

The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, along with Dr. D. Jay and Beverly Grimes, will be hosting a free seminar by Dr. Bill Hogarth, director of the Florida Institute of Oceanography (FIO) Tuesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. at the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center for Arts and Education. This will be the sixth presentation in the Grimes Distinguished Lecture Series.

The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, along with Dr. D. All of the above questions are important ones to remember during April, which serves as National Fair Housing Month. The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) recognizes that fair housing laws and practices should be highlighted in April as well as all other months of the year.

The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Biological Sciences will host "Fire in the Forest" day camp March 22 in conjunction with the National Fire Protection Association and representatives from the Mississippi State Extension Service. This camp will introduce children to fire safety and teach them about the importance of prescribed fire in forest management.

The camp is for 4th - 6th graders and runs from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The cost is $40 and includes lunch.

Dr. Eric Powell, director of The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in Ocean Springs has been selected to be part of this year’s 2014 Masters Program announced by the Gulf Coast Business Council Research Foundation.

Dr. Eric Powell, director of The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in Ocean Springs has been selected to be part of this year’s 2014 Masters Program announced by the Gulf Coast Business Council Research Foundation.

The Masters Program, developed in 2007 to identify and develop emerging leaders of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, is a one year commitment which will cover a variety of topics and consists of eight sessions.
