Division, National Food Service Management Institute (NFSMI-ARD)
Vision:
The vision of the National Food Service Management Institute is to be the leader in providing education, research, and resources to promote excellence in Child Nutrition Programs.
Mission:
The mission of the National Food Service Management Institute is to provide information and services that promote the continuous improvement of Child Nutrition Programs.
Applied Research Division:
The Applied Research Division located at The University of Southern Mississippi is a cooperative arrangement between The University of Mississippi and The University of Southern Mississippi. A USDA grant supports the total operation of the National Food Service Management Institute. The Applied Research Division staff includes a director, administrative assistant, three research scientists, a NFSMI Scholar (competitively selected from a national pool of researchers), part-time secretarial support, and two graduate research assistants. Projects are conducted nationwide related to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), National School Breakfast, NSLP Afterschool Care Snack Service, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Nutrition and Food Systems Programs
The Applied Research Division director and one research scientist provide 20 percent support to the academic programs within Nutrition and Food Systems. Support includes graduate-level course work, advisement of master's and doctoral candidates, service on master's and doctoral committees, and participation in faculty meetings and committee assignments.
