STRC CRUISES
May 16-19, 2006- Research Cruise to Mississippi Canyon Block 118 onboard the R/V Pelican the purposes of this
cruise were 1) to select sites appropriate to the design and function of the first permanently deployed components of the monitoring station/seafloor observatory(MS/SFO) - the Pore-Fluid Array (PFA)(DOE) and the prototype thermistors
Geophysical Line Array (GLA)(DOE) – and 2) to deploy the arrays.
September 11-17, 2006- Research Cruise to Mississippi Canyon Block 118 onboard the
R/V Seward Johnson the purposes of this cruise were 1)taking more push cores and water samples to further survey the area and 2) deploying and placing the sensor packages over the different hydrate locations.

UVTC Engineering Technician
The National Institute for Undersea Science and Technology's (NIUST) Undersea Vehicle Technology Center (UVTC) at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for the position of Marine Technician / Electronics Engineer. The successful applicant will be a key member of the team of engineers and technicians that will be operating and maintaining the Autonomous Undersea Vehicle (AUV) that the UVTC has recently acquired.
The operation will initially be sited at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) NOAA Undersea Research Center (NURC) and the successful applicant will be located in Wilmington through 2007 when the vehicle and position will likely transfer to the Stennis Space Center on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.
