"Making a Living While Making a Difference"

Each American Humanics student is required to complete a 300 hour internship with a local, state, or national nonprofit organization. This internship can be combined with the internship requirements for the student's major. Internship Opportunities

Next Gen Leaders Program – This program is a competitive internship program available through the national American Humanics Program. Students accepted into the program receive a $4,500 stipend for their 300 hour internship plus mentoring by a nonprofit professional. For more information about this program, check here.

The United Way of Southeast Mississippi Internship – This competitive internship provides a $3,000 stipend to a student to complete a 300 hour internship with the United Way of Southeast Mississippi. The deadline for applying for the 2008-2009 internship is August 29, 2008. Please contact Ann Marie Kinnell, 601.266.5339, ann.kinnell@usm.edu, for information about the application process.

AmeriCorps*ProCorps Positions – Some nonprofit organizations have designated AmeriCorps*ProCorps positions in volunteer-management and/or working with at-risk youth. Students in these positions become paid employees of the organization or receive a stipend from the organization. Please note that the student must not be currently working in the same position in which they plan to serve as an AH AmeriCorps* ProCorps member. Students who complete a designated number of hours are eligible to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education award of $4,725 for 1700 hours of service, $2,362 for 900 hours, or $1,250 for 450 hours. All terms must be completed within 12 months, except for reasons of compelling personal circumstances.
