Message from the Dean
On behalf of the students, faculty and staff at the University of Southern Mississippi College of Nursing, I thank you for visiting our home page and learning more about us. This is such an exciting time to be a part of the nursing profession. The recent publication of The Future of Nursing, Advancing Health, Leading Change has focused national attention on the impact of nurses in providing quality, safe healthcare and leading the change for a reformed health care system.
It is also an exciting time to be a part of Southern Miss Nursing as we are poised to embark upon some exciting new opportunities. On January 18, 2012, we launched the College of Nursing Building Campaign to build a new 3 story state of the art, building on the northeast corner of campus. This building will give the School of Nursing at Southern Miss the tools it needs to continue to make a difference in the lives of Mississippi residents by educating entry-level nurses, advanced practice nurses, nurse faculty, nurseresearchers, and nurse educators. See (College of Nursing Building Campaign) for more information.
We also are seeking initial accreditation of a new nurse anesthetist program which will provide the potential students with the opportunity to stay in Mississippi and receive the education necessary to be licensed as a nurse anesthetist. This program is designed as a post baccalaureate to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.
As you read the information provided on our home page, you will learn about our legacy of providing quality nursing programs that prepare graduates who are competent to assume the many roles of nursing. Whether you are seeking to be a new nurse in practice or seeking to advance your career through graduate education, you will find that we have the educational program that will match your career decision.
At Southern Miss we are proud of our values of inspired, innovative, and diverse. Join us we move forward in breaking ground and transforming healthcare.
Southern Miss to the Top!
