Volunteerism is the backbone of the dietetic internship. Each year, the 16 interns are each required to complete over 1200 hours of supervised practice in hospitals, health care facilities, school nutrition programs, food banks, foodservice establishments, and various other locations. Annually, more than150 individuals in no less than 30 different locations work with the students enrolled in the dietetic practice emphasis.
In all of these settings, preceptors volunteer to work with the interns through teaching, guiding, and mentoring to create the next generation of professionals in dietetics. The internship cannot exist without the more than 20,000 hours that are volunteered each year to support the program. It is our pleasure to recognize the outstanding work of some of the preceptors in an intern-nominated “Preceptor Spotlight.”
