International Educational Opportunities

This is an invitation to apply for a very special program: the opportunity to broaden your horizons and enhance your future teaching career from a global perspective. At present students experience the area near London, England as their international placement.

The selection process involves completing a student questionnaire, submitting a medical report, and providing letters of recommendation from your methods instructor, your program chairperson, and from one other person who has known you for a least three years. Candidates who meet the aforementioned criteria will be invited to a selection interview, and then will be notified as to whether their application has been approved.

The cost for this program is approximately $10,000.  The length of the time abroad is a total of 8 weeks, with a week for travel before, during, and after the student teaching.  This is considered an official study abroad program, which means that you should check as soon as you apply to see if you qualify for a loan through the Financial Aid Department on campus. Most of our applicants have funded this program through a variety of loans and scholarships.

Teaching overseas usually commences the second teacher candidacy experience of the semester.  First experience teacher candidacy is occasionally interrupted for an international experience, only to be resumed when the candidate returns from abroad. In either case, the candidate must prove successful during the first experience in order to participate in the overseas program.

Application for this experience is available on TK20.
