Freshman Orientation Agenda

Day 1

*If you have reserved overnight accommodations in campus housing, you should CHECK INTO CAMPUS HOUSING BEFORE checking into the orientation event in the Thad Cochran Center.  Overnight housing check-in will be from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Century Park Learning Center, and we encourage you to arrive as closely to 2 p.m. as possible so that you may take full advantage of the orientation activities in the Thad Cochran Center. If you have not reserved overnight campus accommodations but would like to, click here. (Reservations are required.)

2-3:30 p.m. | Check-in and your choice of activities | Thad Cochran Center

  • Take care of business including financial aid, student housing, meal plans, student ID, parking decal, student email account, disability accommodations, etc.
  • Attend sessions about student finances, campus involvement, pre-professional programs in health-related fields, and Greek life

 4:15 p.m. | Welcome Session | Thad Cochran Center

 5-8:30 p.m. | Student and parent sessions and dinner | Various Locations

  • Students and parents will have dinner in the Fresh Food Company and attend sessions together about freshman success, SOAR and class selection.

 8:30-10 p.m. | Eagles after Hours and Parent Reception | M.M. Roberts Stadium

 

Day 2

(Parent and students will attend separate programming throughout Day 2.)

Students

8:30 a.m. | Welcome to Your Southern Miss | Bennett Auditorium

9:15 a.m.-Early afternoon | Small group meeting, lunch with your small group, and finalize fall class schedule | Various Locations

Early-Mid afternoon | Check-out, verify class schedule, optional residence hall tours  and take care of any remaining business | Thad Cochran Center
Students will conclude orientation activities by mid-afternoon on Day 2.

Parents

8:30 a.m. | The Road Ahead: An Orientation for Parents | Thad Cochran Center

9:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | Parent sessions | Thad Cochran Center

  • Parents may attend concurrent sessions regarding financial aid, campus safety and various university services and will have the opportunity to take guided tours of campus.

12:30 p.m. | Lunch on your own | Fresh Food Company
Students will eat lunch with their orientation leader,

Early-Mid afternoon | Parent check-out, optional residence hall tours, and take care of any remaining business | Thad Cochran Center
Students will conclude orientation activities by mid-afternoon on Day 2.
