Freeing the Power of the Individual

ONE VOICE for the Arts at Southern Miss

An alliance between the community and the Department of Art and Design, Department of Theatre and Dance, and the School of Music at Southern Miss, Partners for the Arts was established in 1997 to support and enhance the arts; promote arts education; and expand access to regional, national, and international arts events and artists.

Partnering for a Better Arts Future

Partners for the Arts reaches the community through performances, master classes, workshops, exhibits, and lectures. We support guest artists, educational programs, and opportunities for Southern Miss student and faculty artists. Arts outreach also includes participation in community-wide events and collaboration with other community and civic organizations.

Message from the Chair

Dear Prospective and Continuing Partners,

It’s an exciting time at our university, a time of new beginnings. As we wish Dr. Shelby Thames well in his return to research and thank him for supporting our efforts, we look forward to the energy and excitement that our new president brings. And, although we mourn the loss of Dean Elliott Pood, the College of Arts and Letters is now in the capable hands of Dr. Denise von Herrmann. We arts supporters have an interested and receptive audience in our new campus leaders.

Partners for the Arts is growing! Last year, we set records in terms of membership numbers (more than 200) and dollars contributed. With your help, we were able to supplement funding in art, music, theatre, and dance to the tune of more than $66,000.

We hope to continue that momentum this year. Won’t you take a moment to look at our Web site and see for yourself who we are and why you should be a part of our organization. Start enjoying your Partners benefits today. You’ll receive invitations to Partners-only receptions throughout the year and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to the numerous artistic events that make our area such a culturally rich place to call home.

Sincerely,

Becky Montague
Chair, Partners for the Arts
