Contributions and Privileges
What has Partners for the Arts contributed to the arts at Southern Miss? How is my contribution going to further the arts in my area?
In 2006, Partners for the Arts supported major university events and educational opportunities:
- Sponsor of musical performances, including the Symphony Orchestra season headliner concert with Joshua Bell, Tetrakis Percussion appearance with the Wind Ensemble, and the Holiday Choral Spectacular
- Sponsor of major guest artist lectures and exhibitions at the university’s Museum of Art, including Mitchell Gaudet and Jan Siesling, and provided support for art preservation and docent training
- Provided support funding for education opportunities, including the Southern Invitational Choral Conference, the Iron Pour Workshop, and residencies for Theatre and Dance;
- Sponsor of dance guest artist residency of Etienne Cakpo and John Rodriquez; and
- Sponsor of the Southern Miss Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors, and most recently, of the Southern Opera and Musical Theatre Company production of Carmen in April 2007
Now, more than ever, an area’s arts community and its impact on quality of life are the soul of the community and its people. As much as the landscape or architecture, the ethnicity or sports franchises, the culture of a city or region defines its economic edge.
