Freeing the Power of the Individual

ONE VOICE for the Arts at Southern Miss

An alliance between the community and the Department of Art and Design, Department of Theatre and Dance, and the School of Music at Southern Miss, Partners for the Arts was established in 1997 to support and enhance the arts; promote arts education; and expand access to regional, national, and international arts events and artists.

Partnering for a Better Arts Future

Partners for the Arts reaches the community through performances, master classes, workshops, exhibits, and lectures. We support guest artists, educational programs, and opportunities for Southern Miss student and faculty artists. Arts outreach also includes participation in community-wide events and collaboration with other community and civic organizations.

Message from the Chair

Dear Prospective and Continuing Partners,

With the recent inauguration of President Martha Saunders and the announcement of Denise von Herrmann as Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, the University of Southern Mississippi enters a new era, and the future is bright. Partners for the Arts plans to be a part of that destiny. With the enthusiasm and energy generated by Dr. Saunders and the loyal support of our campus leaders, you can be assured that the arts will be in good hands at Southern Miss. Partners for the Arts is at work and growing by leaps and bounds.

Membership last year jumped to 270 members, and with your help, we were able to supplement funding in art, music, theater and dance to the tune of $90,000. These funds are extremely meaningful to the quality and the frequency of the art programs at Southern Miss. It’s most important that we continue that momentum this year. Loyal individual members have always been the backbone and driving force behind our organization. We appeal to these dedicated members to renew their membership and encourage more in our business community to become corporate members. There’s no better way to show local residents that you wish to enrich the culture and quality of life in our area than through the support of the arts.

Please take a moment to look at the list of dedicated Partners from 2007-08 and consider joining them by completing and returning the membership form and start enjoying your Partners benefits today. As a member you’ll receive invitations to Partners-only receptions throughout the year and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to a healthy arts environment for our university and community.

Sincerely,

Allen Hale
Chair, Partners for the Arts
