DORM SAFETYNever prop or block open fire doors. If they have automatic door closers, the doors should be closed. In the event of a fire, these doors will help control the spread of smoke and fire. Never store flammable material inside the dorm. Examples include flammable paints, paint thinner, mineral spirits, charcoal lighter fluid, or any other liquid that has "flammable" printed on the label. Please limit the amount of combustibles you keep in your room. Examples include excess amounts of boxes, books, papers, or excess clothing. Limit the amount of posters on walls as they would allow a fire to quickly spread. Do not use unapproved outlet multipliers or outlet cubes. If you need more outlets than you have then please use a power strip with a built-in circuit breaker. Power cords should never be run under rugs or carpets, as this can be a fire hazard. Bicycles should never be left in stairwells or hallways. Bicycles should never be chained to handrails. Irons, curling irons, or blow dryers should never be left unattended and should always be unplugged when not in use. Never have a fire ignition source in the dorms. Examples include candles, incense, space heaters, or hot plates. Always exit the building during a fire alarm. This is a state law and university policy. Always know the location of the nearest fire extinguisher. Always know two ways out of the building. Never use the elevator during a fire alarm. |
