IDV Ph.D. Comprehensive Examinations
The exams will be given each year during November
and April. Students intending to sit for the exams this spring
must register with their major research
team leader by sending an email to him or her before February
28th. The email should indicate the student's name, whether the
area is to be used as the major or minor field, and where the
student intends to take the written portion of the exam. Students
may take the written portion of the exams at any proctored exam
site. For more information about proctored exams please visit
the university's Distance
education site. Students will take written exams in both
their major and minor field, with approximately 60% of the questions
coming from the major and 40% coming from the minor. Only faculty
participating on the particular research team will be involved
in grading the exams. Exams will be scored as either a "high
pass," "pass," or "fail." Students will schedule a follow-up
oral examination on all questions to occur either immediately
before or immediately after the December 1st In-Person. Please

Master's Comprehensive Examinations
Students intending to sit for comprehensive examinations should consult with Dr. Marek Steedman,
Master's Program Graduate Coordinator. Written
exams will cover the students' major and minor fields of Political
Science. Students should contact their major professors now to
obtain reading lists and other information.
