When is the Campus Post Office open?
Regular service window hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
What time does the mail leave campus?
Mail is picked up by USPS Monday - Friday at 3 p.m. Mail that requires special attention,
such as Express, Registered, Certified, or Insured should be delivered to the Southern Miss Post
Office no later than 2:30 p.m. to allow sufficient processing time.
When is mail delivered to my mailbox?
Mail from the Post Office (USPS) is delivered each morning at 7:15 a.m. and placed in mailboxes by
9 a.m. Deliveries from UPS, FedEx and DHL are received at various times throughout the day,
written up and delivery notices placed in mailboxes within thirty minues of receipt at the
Southern Miss Post Office. Campus mail is placed in mailboxes throughout the day.
I lost the combination to my mailbox. How do I get a new one?
A replacement combination card can be obtained at the Southern Miss Post Office. There
is a $1 fee for this service, which is charged to the boxholder's account in the Business
Office.
What forms of payment are accepted at the Post Office?
Currently, the Southern Miss Post Office accepts cash and checks for postal transactions.
Customers who purchase a USPS Money Order must pay with cash only.
How much does it cost to rent a student mailbox?

($50 fee covers fall, spring and summer semesters; $30 fee covers spring and summer semesters,
and the $10 fee is for the summer semester only.
Post Office box rental fees
are nonrefundable.
Am I required to maintain a campus mailbox?
The post office box rental fee is assessed to all students living in university-controlled
housing. Students who live off-campus have the option of renting a campus post office box at
the same rate if they so desire.
Do I have to get a new mailbox each semester?
No. Once your box is assigned it remains yours as long as you are enrolled at Southern Miss.
I will not be taking classes during the summer semester, but will return for the fall semester.
What do I need to do about my mail?
Prior to the end of the spring semester, students who plan to sit out the summer semester must
visit the Southern Miss Post Office and complete a Temporary Official Change of Address form.
This action reserves your mailbox for the fall semester and allows the Southern Miss Post Office to
forward you mail during the summer break.
I am graduating, withdrawing, or transferring from Southern Miss. What do I need to do about
my mail and campus mailbox?
Campus mailbox holders must visit the Southern Miss Post Office and complete an Official Change
of Address form. This action prevents any further mailbox charges to your student account and
allows your mail to be forwarded to your new address for one year.
I am having trouble getting my mailbox open. Am I doing something wrong?
Our campus mailboxes are decades old and occasionally do malfunction. However, in most cases we find
that after the box holder has dialed in their combination, they forget the final step -
turn right to open. Any boxholder who has difficulty opening their box should seek
assistance from a member of the Southern Miss Post Office staff.
