HATTIESBURG
- The University of Southern Mississippi Repertory Dance Company
will present three opportunities to see student choreographic works
at their best on Dec. 4-6 at Studio 115 in the Theatre and Dance
Building.
Junior choreographer
Anna Dupree created a work inspired by the Brazilian martial art
form Capoeira. Using Brazilian percussion and guitar as its musical
background, the dance demonstrates the artistry, athleticism and
passion of the Brazilian culture.
A trio of dancers
will investigate three-dimensional movement based on the concept
of a spiral in a work by senior choreographer Jessica Burgos. While
standing on small, flat, and freely rotating platforms, the dancers
will form spiraling patterns in space with their bodies as they
rotate. The dancer's individual and combined movements conjure images
of ice skaters and music box figures.
Senior dance
major Mignon Reid calls her piece "Remember." The feeling
of true friendship and the need to give and receive love was her
inspiration for her choreography.
"It will
surprise the audience at both the beginning and the end," Reid
said. "I hope it will give some audience members a little something
to take home with them."
The performances
each evening begin at 7:30 p.m. in Studio 115 at the Theatre and
Dance Building. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door only.
