The team will be working on projects with Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity as well as the Pine Burr Area Boy Scouts. Tasks the team will focus on include constructing a house starting from the concrete slab with Habitat for Humanity, along with a variety of construction and maintenance projects at the Eagle's Nest Campground with the Boy Scouts.

AmeriCorps NCCC is a 10-month residential national service program for young adults ages 18 to 24 who have demonstrated a strong commitment to service. Teams typically consist of eight to 12 members who work on a given project for a period of six to eight weeks, while supervised by an experienced team leader. Teams are deployed from five locations throughout the country and serve a geographic region based upon their home campus. The home campus for the 11-person team coming to Hattiesburg is based in Charleston, S.C.

Projects in which AmeriCorps NCCC teams are currently involved include forest fire coping and prevention, wild animal treatment and rehabilitation, child tutoring and mentoring, home maintenance and construction, park maintenance and growth and disaster relief.

While AmeriCorps NCCC teams typically work for a period of at least six weeks, the team deployed to the Pine Belt area will be working for one month. This shortened term is a result of disaster relief efforts carried out by the team following hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Ivan.
