HATTIESBURG - Dr. Amber Shay, a new faculty pianist at The University of Southern Mississippi, will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Marsh Auditorium. The program for the evening will include Haydn's Sonata in E-flat major, Faure's Nocturne in E-flat Minor, Op. 33 No. 1, Debussy's "Estampes," and Rachmanioff's Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 36 (1913 version). Also featured on the program will be Earl Wild's improvisation in the form of theme and variations on Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me." Admission is free and open to the public.

Shay joined the piano faculty as an assistant professor in the School of Music

at Southern Miss in August 2004. She holds a doctorate in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music. An active solo pianist and a collaborative artist, Shay was invited to be an assistant accompanist at the International Workshops in Stavanger, Norway, in 2002, where she also performed as a soloist. Afterwards, she gave favorably reviewed solo performances at the International Summer Music Academy in Leipzig, Germany. Shay was the only United States citizen to be accepted into the 2001 TCU/Van Cliburn International Piano Institute in Fort Worth, Texas.
