HATTIESBURG -- Two
events sponsored by organizations at The University of Southern
Mississippi will spotlight the ongoing genocide crisis in the African
nation of Sudan.
A forum to examine the issue will be held Tuesday,
Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in Stout Hall A. Featured speakers include Douglas
Chambers, Elizabeth Drummond, Bob Press, Michael Ide and Gene Goaux.
The forum, sponsored by the Southern Miss Sudan Steering Committee,
includes a short audiovisual presentation.
In addition, a benefit concert for refugees in Sudan
will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, at 8:30 p.m. at the Thirsty Hippo,
211 S. Main Street in Hattiesburg. Three bands will perform, including
Percussion Concussion, Thomas Jackson, and An End to October. Admission
to the concert is $5, with proceeds to benefit the charity work
of Doctors Without Borders in providing health care for refugees
in Darfur, Sudan.
This event is sponsored by Southern Miss Amnesty International
and the Sudan Steering Committee.
