-- To celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11,
the Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage at The University
of Southern Mississippi brings to you the voices of Mississippi men
and women who served our country from World War I through the Vietnam
War. The stories of these veterans will be featured throughout the
day statewide on Mississippi Public Broadcasting Radio.
Join in throughout the day to hear veterans share
their reflections on training, combat, and the legacies of the conflicts
in which they participated. Listen to defenders of freedom such
as Gen. Elmo Bell, who persevered through the Battle of the Bulge
and remembers it as "pure, unadulterated misery." The
contribution of Mississippians in the wars of the 20th century is
truly impressive, said Dr. Stephen Sloan, the acting director at
the Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage.
"We honor these veterans by taking heed of the
sacrifices and hardships they endured in service to their country,"
Sloan said.
