HATTIESBURG –
Bonita Favre, mother of former University of Southern Mississippi
and current Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, will be on
the Southern Miss campus for homecoming Oct. 15 to sign copies of
Favre from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Barnes and Noble at Southern Miss,
located in The Hub behind Danforth Chapel and next to M.M. Roberts
Stadium.
Favre chronicles the exploits of Brett’s
football career and love for the game and includes color photos
of Brett in action and of his family. It was written by Chris Havel,
a sports columnist for the Green Bay Press-Gazette who has covered
the Packers for the last 14 years, in conjunction with Brett and
Bonita.
“We’re thrilled to have Bonita
here for this book signing, especially during homecoming,”
said Barnes and Noble at Southern Miss bookstore manager Kathy Hayman.
At Southern Miss, Favre, a native of Kiln,
came off the bench as a freshman in a 1987 home game against Tulane
University and rallied the Golden Eagles from behind to a 31-24
victory over the Green Wave. He led Southern Miss as quarterback
through the 1990 season and to berths in the Independence Bowl and
the All-American Bowl. In 1988, Favre quarterbacked Southern Miss
to its first 10-win season in more than 35 years.
He has led the Packers to two Super Bowls,
including a 35-21 victory over the New England Patriots in the 1996
NFL Championship game.
“This is truly an honor because Brett
is one of our own,” said Maggie Amerson, trade book manager
for Barnes and Noble at Southern Miss. “We’re looking
to have one of our biggest book signings ever.”
Favre is published by Random House. The cost
is $29.95. For more information about this event, call (601) 266-4381.
