AUTHORITY ON HISTORY OF PSYCHOLOGY
FEATURED SPEAKER FOR SOUTHERN MISS HILDMAN COLLOQUIUM
HATTIESBURG –
One of the world’s leading authorities on the history of
psychology, Dr. Ludy Benjamin, will be the featured speaker for the
Third Annual Lee Hildman Colloquium at the University of Southern
Mississippi Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at Marsh Auditorium. Admission is
free.
Benjamin, who will
present “Mississippi’s Inez Prosser and the Education of African
Americans,” has published extensively on the subject of historical
psychology and has won numerous teaching and research awards. He
currently holds the Murray and Celeste Fasken Chair in Distinguished
Teaching at Texas A&M University.
“The history of psychology reflects the advancement of scientific
thought in the 19th and 20th centuries. Dr. Benjamin’s work has
contributed greatly to our knowledge about the philosophical and
historical underpinnings of psychology,” said Southern Miss
associate professor of psychology Dr. Mitchell Berman.
The Hildman
Colloquium was established in 2003 in memory of a longtime member of
the Southern Miss psychology faculty, the late Lee Hildman.
“Dr. Benjamin is a
dynamic and entertaining speaker,” said Dr. Stan Kuczaj, chairman of
the Southern Miss Department of Psychology. “His presentation
promises to be a sensational talk, and one that should interest a
broad spectrum of students, faculty, and community members.”
A reception will
follow Benjamin’s presentation. For more information about this
