HATTIESBURG – Dr. Shelby F. Thames, president of the University of Southern Mississippi, announced today that Chief Financial Officer Greg Lassen has resigned his position.

“Greg Lassen has served the university with dedication and excellence,” Thames said. “He will now return to Texas where he can be closer to family members.”

Lassen has been at the university for two-and-a-half years and has spent his career in higher education and private industry. His last day will be Feb. 24.

“I am proud to have been a part of Southern Miss and have enjoyed the experience of enhancing campus facilities and bringing new business approaches to the university,” Lassen said.

Notable projects on campus led by Lassen include the student malls, pedestrian walkways, and expansive building projects, including the Student Union addition that is set to open this summer and the successful outsourcing of food service and book store operations.

Added Thames: “I want to thank Greg for his innovative and fiscally prudent approaches that have advanced our university. He has given much to make Southern Miss a better place. He will be missed.”

Normal processes for filling the vacancy will begin at the university in the department of human resources.
