Hattiesburg—The University of Southern Mississippi’s University Libraries
will present its Brown Bag Series on Tuesdays in March, which will
include a variety of speakers and musicians. The university community
is invited to attend these free events and bring their lunch. Cookies
and lemonade will be provided.
Brown Bag presentations
will be March 7, 14 and 28 in Cook Library, Room 123. The March
21 event will be held in The Courtyard across from Cook Library.
The schedule
includes
*March 7: Dr.
Clayton Sullivan, professor emeritus of philosophy and religion
at Southern Miss will speak about his book Why Beulah Shot Her
Pistol Inside The Baptist Church, as well as his latest work.
Cook Library has copies of Beulah available on three-day reserve
in Cook Library.
*March 14: Yvonne
Arnold, Southern Miss’ University Archivist, will present “Pieces
of the Past” as she traces Southern Miss’ roots from its founding
in 1910 to the 21st century, using historical documents, photographs,
artifacts and memorabilia preserved in the university’s William
D. McCain Library and Archives.
*March 21: Cook
Library’s own Suzy Elkins and David Sumrall, both also well known
on the Hattiesburg music scene, will perform songs from the 1960s
and ’70s, including some of their original work, at The Courtyard
across from Cook Library.
*March 28: Bill
Powe, outdoor program manager for Southern Miss Recreational Sports,
will present information about the popular Longleaf Trace recreational
trail, a Rails to Trails project, which covers approximately 40
miles between Hattiesburg and Prentiss. Powe will discuss future
plans for the Trace, including plans to extend the trail east from
the Southern Miss Gateway.
