– The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of
Technology Education has received a gift of computer software from
Inspiration Software Inc. valued at more than $9,000.
Inspiration
Software donated 113 computer volume licenses of Kidspiration, 113
computer volume licenses of Inspiration, 25 device licenses of Inspiration
for Palm OS, and 25 device licenses of Inspiration for Pocket PC.
These software programs will be used in the preservice educational
technology courses offered by the Southern Miss Department of Technology
Education on the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses.
“This is a very
generous gift and will help support our students and courses,” said
Dr. Steve Yuen, professor of instructional technology, who was instrumental
in securing the donation for the department.
With the donation,
preservice professional education students will now have the opportunity
to preview and evaluate these software programs for future curriculum
planning and development purposes.
In addition,
future teacher candidates at the university can now recognize the
benefit of using concept maps and graphic organizers as a way to
augment teaching and learning and will enter the Mississippi school
systems with an understanding of and experience with using visual
learning tools within the curriculum.
“Were grateful
to Inspiration Software,” said Dr. Willie Pierce, dean of the Southern
Miss College of Education and Psychology. “This donation will help
us continue to offer cutting-edge technology to our students.”
