HATTIESBURG—This
Saturday, the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) chapter at Southern Miss will
once again hold their annual charity crawfish boil. The event will
include a sand volleyball tournament, live music, door prizes and,
of course, 10,000 pounds of all-you-can-eat crawfish, potatoes and
corn. Advance tickets are sold for $12, and tickets at the door
are $15. The event is located at the Alpha Tau Omega house on Fraternity
Drive on the Southern Miss campus.
For 21 years,
the men of ATO have held this event, showing their dedication to
serving others. Brandon Thomas, this year’s chairman for the event,
has been hard at work to make sure this year is just as successful.
“Crawfish boil is one of the most successful, longest running philanthropies
on campus, generating upwards of $45,000 and hosting around 2,500
people annually,” Brandon said, “This is a wonderful day to bring
the community together.”
In addition
to their annual crawfish boil, ATO strives to give back to their
community as often as possible. During the last school year, the
chapter completed more than 10,000 hours of community service. They
were honored for their efforts by receiving an award naming them
the top ATO chapter in the nation for their continued dedication
to community service. Whit Meeks, public relations chair for ATO,
points out that this year’s event will be even more special. “Last
year’s event proved so successful that the ATO national president
will take time out of his busy schedule to visit our crawfish boil
this year.”
