Southern Miss Founders' Day Schedule

Hattiesburg Campus

11:00 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.
Hall of Fame Brunch Recognition Brunch – Polly Stout Room

Parties included: Hall of Fame inductees and their parents, Dr. Paul

1:30 p.m.
Founders’ Day Ceremony – North Side of Lucas Administration Building (Rain Site R.C. Cook Union Lobby)
Parties included: Faculty, Staff, Students, Hall of Fame and other award winners and their parents, speakers, SGA officers, invited guests

  • Awards Day Program
    • Presentation of Outstanding Freshman Male & Female
    • Presentation of Best Male & Female Citizens
    • Presentation of the Hall of Fame
    • Presentation of Phi Kappa Phi Bowl
    • Presentation of Bishop Award winner
  • 10 – 30 year Faculty/Staff recognition
  • SGA Inauguration
    • Speech by outgoing President
    • Swearing in of officers as a group
    • Speech by incoming President
  • Alma Mater sung by Dr. Kimberley Davis

3:00 p.m.
Reception – Power House Courtyard (Rain Site: Polly Stout Room)

Parties included: Faculty, Staff, Students, Hall of Fame and other award winners and their parents, speakers, SGA officers, invited guests

  • Punch and “birthday” cake served in honor of the University’s 96th anniversary
  • Campus offices closed from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Student Honor Organization Initiation Ceremonies – RC Cook Union

Parties included: Members and initiates of the freshman and sophomore honor societies

  • Phi Eta Sigma – 3:30 p.m.
  • Alpha Lambda Delta – 4:30 p.m.
  • Lambda Sigma – 5:30 p.m.

6:00 p.m.
Official Ring Presentation Ceremony – Ogletree Alumni House

Parties included: Juniors and Seniors who have purchased their Official Rings and their families and friends

7:30 p.m.
Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents Tchaikovsky – Bennett Auditorium
