POWWOW—Mary Zitnik of Loxley, Ala., an international
studies student at the University of Southern Mississippi, closely
examines some American Indian jewelry Friday, during the first day
of the Golden Eagles Intertribal Society 4th Annual Powwow on the
Hattiesburg, Miss., campus. The three-day powwow features gourd
and intertribal dancing, hand-drum and dance contests, as well as
cultural presentations and Indian arts, crafts and foods. The powwow,
serves as a fund-raiser for recruitment, retention, and scholarships
