NEW PECAN TREE—Tom Strange of Ocean Springs, Miss., a geography student at the University of Southern Mississippi, takes his turn at planting a pecan tree Friday on the Hattiesburg, Miss., campus, while fellow geography and geology students and faculty look on. Located outside Kelley Hall, home to Southern Miss geography and geology programs, the young tree replaces an old pecan tree that was destroyed during hurricane Katrina.
