HATTIESBURG – Forty-nine teams from 18 different

Southern Miss Coca-Cola Flag Football Invitational on Dec. 2.
Held on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi,
the tournament was broken down into four divisions-- men’s open,
men’s collegiate, women’s collegiate and co-rec collegiate.
Winners from each division received bids to the national tournament
to be held at the University of West Florida. The winners from
each division were as follows:
Men’s Open: 1st Place: Hitmen (New Orleans, La.), 2nd Place:
DestinDirect.com (Pensacola, Fla.)
Men’s Collegiate: 1st Place: All Blacks (University of Louisiana,
Lafayette), 2nd Place: Mugshots (University of Southern Mississippi)
Women’s Collegiate: 1st Place: Xperience (Stephen F. Austin),
2nd Place: Redemption (Southern University)
Co-Rec Collegiate: 1st Place: Fury (Georgia State), 2nd Place:

There was also a team of officials selected to officiate at
the national tournament. Those officials were Brett Horne (West
Alabama), Chris Rivers (Mississippi State), Stephen Orkus (Louisiana
State) and Jeremy Harey (Texas A&M, Commerce).
The tournament staff was made up of volunteers from 10 institutions
from across the country, including the recreational sports staff
from Southern Miss.
“Without a doubt, this tournament featured as high a level
of competition and sportsmanship as any in recent years,” said
tournament director Chris McGee.
With the help of a tremendous staff, the invitational was
able to overcome problems posed by the effects of Hurricane
Katrina. “I can’t say enough how thankful I am to have had the
opportunity to have worked with such a wonderful staff,” said
director of tournament operations Lindsey Inman. “They most
definitely deserve the highest praise for coming from all over
the nation to help run this tournament.”
