HATTIESBURG -- The Southern Opera and Musical
Theatre Company at the University of Southern Mississippi will
present Holidays on Broadway Dec. 2 at the Saenger Theater in
downtown Hattiesburg.
“Holidays on Broadway will be a festive, but musically and
visually varied program,” said Dr. Maryann Kyle, director of
the company. “We have some very talented student performers
that will bring the holidays to life like no other concert we
have performed.”
The USM Jazz Combo, dancers from Miss Kim’s Dance Studio of
Hattiesburg and three singing Elvis impersonators will join
the Southern Miss vocalist in a rousing evening of family fun.
Kyle said the program includes secular and sacred favorites,
including “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas
Tree,” “White Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,”
“Joy to the World,” “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear,” “Angels
We Have Heard on High” and “Let It Snow.”
The USM Jazz Combo, under the direction of Southern Miss jazz
studies director Larry Panella, will perform a jazz sextet rendition
of “Little Drummer Boy” and “We Three Kings,” along with a mamba
arrangement of “Do You Hear What I Hear?”
Featured vocalists include Jennifer Allyn Abernathy of Richland;
Tinyke Badenhorst of South Africa; Deidra Brown of Peachtree
City, Ga.; Matthew Davis of Decatur, Ala.; Brad Gilmore of Tupelo;
Hunter Graybeal of Bristol, Tenn.; Leslie Hippensteel of New
Orleans, La.; Robyn Holmes of Petal; Lauren Johnson and Adam
Riser of Madison; Blair Norman of Clinton; Bret Lunsford of
Picayune and Jess Thomas of Hurley.
The Southern Opera and Music Theatre season is sponsored by
