HATTIESBURG – Nearly 400 prospective students
and parents are scheduled to attend this year’s Honors Day at
the University of Southern Mississippi on Nov. 4, an annual
event hosted by the university’s Honors College.
Honors Day provides top academic students the opportunity
to learn more about the Honors College and its academic programming.
Students and their families can also participate in campus and
residence hall tours, hear comments from administrators, participate
in a panel discussion and meet with faculty during the event.
“We really didn’t know what to expect this year due to the
devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina,” said Dr. Ken Panton,
dean of the Honors College. “Frankly, we were thinking that
our numbers might be down, so we are thrilled at the prospect
of having nearly 400 students visit our campus.
“Obviously students are aware of the reputation and prestige
of our Honors College, and they want to learn more about how
they can join our ranks.”
