This session will cover ADHD from the parent’s perspective along with the results of a survey.
The Oppositional Child – Barbara Howard, MD (handouts)
Differential diagnosis and management of oppositional children, a commom
coexisting condition of ADHD, will be discussed.
Concurrent Sessions:
ADHD in Adults - Robert Sevier, Ph.D.
ADHD is no longer thought of as a condition that ends at adolescence, for we know it continues to impact adults. This session focuses on the common themes and characteristics seen in adults with ADHD.
Anxiety, Depression and Psychopharmacology - Ginger Wishik, MD
Anxiety disorders and depression affecting children and adolescents will be discussed along with basic treatments including pharmacological and psychological interventions.
Autism and Its Comorbidities Overview- Leonora Petty, MD (handouts)
This session provides an overview of autism with a brief look at epidemiology, genetics, neurobiology, treatment and an overview of comorbidities with an emphasis on psychopharmacological treatment.
Increasing Reading Comprehension and Writing Proficiency for Children with ADHD - Felicia Johnson, M.Ed. (handouts)
In this session, participants will learn the parameters that should be set before teaching a child who has been diagnosed with ADHD. This humorous and interactive session will also include specific reading and language arts strategies that, when used as prescribed, will guarantee more success in the classroom.

These sessions will address the following questions: “When do learners with ADHD qualify for a Section 504 plan, and when do they qualify for special education services?” and “What academic and behavioral accommodations may be needed by learners with ADHD?”
Between a Rock and a Hard Place: ADHD and Bipolar Disorder -

This session will review the differential diagnosis of ADHD and pediatric bipolar disorder, touching on the controversies surrounding these diagnoses. It will also review the neurobiology and strategies for medication.

This session will include an introduction to the legal framework of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how to apply these legal concepts to ADHD. Strategies on how employers can accommodate employees with ADHD in order to make their employees as productive as possible will also be explored.

Asperger Syndrome and Academics - Tim Kowalski, MS (handouts)
This presentation will discuss the academic skills and deficits frequently associated with Asperger syndrome.
