The Dubard Association Method Course

The DuBard Association Method Basic Course (SHS 532) will cover:
• The principles of the DuBard Association Method as appropriate for K-2 and
    individuals with communication disorders, dyslexia/learning disabilities
• Stages of auditory and visual development
• The Northampton phonetic symbol system for teaching sound-symbol
    relationships, multiple spellings of sounds and long and short vowels

• The DuBard Association Method as part of the school curriculum

The registration fee includes instruction and all instructional materials except the textbook. Lunch is included for the course and seminar. The registration fee DOES NOT INCLUDE tuition or Southern Miss CEUs.

The text, Teaching Language-Deficient Children (2000 ed.), is required and may be purchased at check-in or with the registration form for $60.00; the text is also available from the Southern Miss bookstore and from Pro-Ed, Inc.

Southern Miss faculty/staff tuition waivers and Office of Field Experience student teacher vouchers apply to tuition fees only. The registration fee and the textbook fee are NOT covered and must be paid by the individual.

Academic Credit

To enroll for academic credit (SHS 532, SHS 727 or SHS 690), a person first must be admitted/readmitted to The University of Southern Mississippi. For information on admission, registration into the course and tuition payment, contact Graduate Studies at 601.266.4369. Individuals participating in the course on a credit basis must pay the noncredit fee in addition to tuition. DO NOT INCLUDE TUITION PAYMENT with the registration form sent to OPDEO. Payment of tuition will be addressed by Graduate Studies. For academic year 2008-2009, tuition is $819 (in-state) for three graduate semester hours of credit. Fees are subject to change without notice.

Continuing Education Units (CEU's)

Southern Miss DuBard School for Language Disorders is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. The course and seminar are each offered for 4.0 CEUs (intermediate level; professional area). ASHA CE provider approval does not imply endorsement of course or seminar content, specific products or clinical procedures. The course and seminar are also approved for 4.0 Southern Miss CEUs for an additional $80. This $80 fee may be submitted with the registration form and registration fee or may be paid at check-in, but the CEU fee must be paid before the first morning session begins. Participants may receive only one of the following: academic credit, ASHA CEUs or Southern Miss CEUs.

Cancellation, Transfer and Refund Policies

Requests to cancel or transfer registration must be made in writing to Southern Miss OPDEO, 118 College Drive #5136, Hattiesburg, MS 39406-0001.

Refund Requests Deadline: September 11, 2009

Requests received before stated deadline will be processed for a 100 percent refund of the registration fee, less a $100 processing fee. Requests postmarked after the stated deadline will not be processed and no refund will be issued.

Requests to transfer registration to another session of the course (1) must be made in writing prior to the beginning of the course; (2) are subject to approval or denial by course director; and (3) will be assessed a $100 processing fee in addition to the fees associated with the course itself.

Tuition is subject to Southern Miss refund policies as outlined in the 2008-2009 Graduate Bulletin.

Southern Miss OPDEO reserves the right to cancel any program that does not reach the minimum enrollment. If a program is canceled, participants will be notified, and the full registration fee will be refunded. In order to avoid disappointment and inconvenience, individuals are encouraged to register early.
