The Phlebotomy Program is offered through the Medical Technology Department. It will provide students with didactic and practical experience regarding the practice of phlebotomy. The first course is taught online and includes didactic materials regarding phlebotomy. The second course allows the student to gain experience in the practice of phlebotomy. The program will be offered for credit or non-credit. Approval status from The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, 8410 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Suite 670, Chicago, IL 60631-3415, 773.714.8880 is being sought. A certificate indicating successful completion is awarded at the end of the program. MTC 110 Phlebotomy I (1 hour) (Phase I, August 20-December 12) is taught via the online format and includes didactic materials regarding phlebotomy. . MTC 111 Phlebotomy Practicum (1 hour) (Phase II, August 20-December 12) allows the student to gain experience in the practice of phlebotomy. The University is affiliated with Wesley Medical Center and Greene County Hospital for MTC 111. In order to enroll in MTC 111, the students must successfully pass MTC 110 with 75% or higher grade. Students will apply for the Phlebotomy Program through the Department of Medical Technology using the application form on the brochure and completing the criminal background statement. The Phlebotomy Program Director will contact the selected candidates to arrange an interview with the Admissions Committee. After the interview, individuals selected for the program under the non-credit option will be notified by the Phlebotomy Program Director to remit payment to: The University of Southern Mississippi Refund requests must be made in writing to the Office of Professional Development and Educational Outreach at least one week before the class begins.
